Overview
• Cubicle-type Gas Insulated Switchgear (C-GIS) is a compact metal-enclosed medium-voltage assembly using SF6 or alternative gas to insulate busbars, switching devices, and live parts inside sealed compartments. Factory-filled gas, robust stainless or painted steel housings, and integrated interlocks provide stable dielectric performance, arc containment, and operator safety. Modular cubicles with standardized interfaces simplify protection coordination, site layout, and maintenance planning.

Application
• Cubicle-type Gas Insulated Switchgear is applied in urban substations, industrial plants, renewable interconnections, and infrastructure where high reliability, compact footprint, and touch-safe operation are critical. It functions as ring main units, feeder panels, transformer incomers, bus couplers, and metering cubicles, supporting underground cable networks and mixed overhead–underground schemes. Remote-ready designs enable integration into automation systems for fault location and restoration.

Feature
•  Modular scheme design:The system is modular. Each module can be freely combined or extended without de-energizing the main ring, which simplifies scheme design and high-voltage metering layout. Typical modules include SF₆-insulated or vacuum circuit-breaker incomers and feeders, load break switch incomers and feeders, bus-coupler, metering, LBS-fuse combination units, and TV cabinets, allowing compact 1–4 panel combinations for ring main or multi-loop cabinets.
•  Enclosure, insulation and busbar extensionThe cabinet uses an armored structure with metal partitions between busbar, switch and cable compartments. The fully insulated primary system can reach IP67. The three-position load break switch is welded inside a sealed stainless-steel SF₆ tank with very low gas leakage, targeting 30-year operation. Extended busbars use fully insulated, shielded plug-in silicone rubber connectors, supporting reliable transmission and easy future capacity expansion.
•  Cable terminations and installationFront plug-in, prefabricated silicone rubber cable terminations solve space limitations inside compact LBS panels and ease cable installation. They allow quick disassembly, fast restoration, and convenient maintenance. The outer semiconducting shield is grounded in service, giving high safety, immunity to moisture, condensation and pollution, and enabling branch or parallel connections. The system can temporarily operate under water up to 4.5 m depth.
•  Operation mechanism and maintenanceThe operating mechanism uses corrosion-resistant metal components and lubricated bearings, reducing operating force and avoiding environment-dependent maintenance. The design supports indoor, outdoor, underground or semi-underground substations with metal or non-metal enclosures, while keeping the interface to external connections simple and reliable.
•  Automation and protectionTo support distribution automation and reliability, the multi-loop cabinet can be equipped with motor operators, TV (voltage transformers) and feeder terminal units for three-remote functions: remote monitoring, remote measurement and remote control. A three-position rotary load break switch, vacuum circuit breakers in SF₆ insulation, and current-limiting high-capacity fuses make the cabinet compact while providing fast, high-breaking-capacity protection.
•  User interface and transformer protectionA clear mimic single-line diagram and status indicators on the front panel show the internal switch positions, making operation straightforward and safe. SF₆ LBS-fuse combination units can replace circuit breakers for protecting transformers up to 1250 kVA, offering comprehensive protection with simpler schemes and lower cost. This makes the SF₆ fully insulated ring main unit or multi-loop distribution cabinet a practical, low-maintenance solution for distribution transformer protection.
